My family(husband and one child) and I have been living on post since June 2010 and will be leaving June 2012.-------------------- Available on post is Burger King Anthony's Pizza Subway and Charlies Subs. Immediately off post are many popular fast food chains gas stations and a few grocery stores. Also on post is a Shoppette a Commissary and an Exchange. All are of good quality and quantity of product. There is a Fort Meade For Sale webpage on Facebook that is where military people can buy/sell their things(somewhat like Craigslist but for only Fort Meade).--------- Recently a dog park was installed but beware. It is in a very secluded place on post and enclosed by surrounding trees and shrubbery so there is usually a tick problem. There is a vet on post who from what I'm told is cheaper than off post if you can get an appointment. There are miscellaneous services offered on post such as barber beauty salon dry cleaners etc. There's also a thrift store that takes all donated items and resales them to make money for different clubs and groups on post. A very nifty place is called the Air man's Attic. It also runs solely on donated items and volunteers. Any service member and family E1-E4 can go and take anything that has been donated FREE of charge! Things vary from baby items/clothing to electronics and even furniture. Of course we have all the generic things you would normally find on post (parks lodging library theater etc)------------ There is a Medieval Times located only 10miles away. Also there's a Six Flags about 1&1/2hrs away. Ocean City is not far from base which is were many festivities are held right on the ocean.----------Kelly N. Thank you Admin.

We have never been stationed here but I grew up in the area and utilized the base facilities while my husband was deployed and I was still living in the area.

I really love the area, I may be slightly bias since it is my hometown, but there is plenty to do in the area and your close to a couple major cities. Ft Meade is right between Baltimore and DC, a little closer to Baltimore, but you can get to each of these cities in 45 minutes or less. Annapolis is also right around the corner and is a beautiful place. The seafood is great and there are some nice bars dowtown. There is also plenty of shopping around. Arundel Mills mall is no more than 10 minutes away from base. There is also plenty of shopping in Annapolis, which has a large mall as does Columbia, both being only about 20 minutes away. Waugh Chapel is a nice local shopping center which is less than 10 minutes away.

There are plenty of places to eat in the area, you won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t run out of ideas.

The PX and Commissary on base are a pretty decent size. You should be able to find what you need at both of these places. Kimbrough is the clinic on base which is alright. I have only been there a couple of times and I wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t too impressed. There is room for improvement. I was expecting my first child at the time and in that case was sent to Bethesda Naval Medical Center. I would say its about 45 minutes or so from base and if you have to deal with the DC traffic its worse. The DMV traffic is horrible. If you are working and commuting, leave yourself plenty of time. It really is horrible.

I never lived on base so I am unsure of the housing but there is plenty of housing off base. Piney Orchard is a great local community with lots of ammenities. The area is pretty expensive so you will have to consider that.

I certainly like the area, if you are stationed here you should be able to find plenty of things to do!
